To our OT, SLP and Professional Providers: How You Can Give Back

To all our OT, SLP, and professional providers—

Hi there! My name is Brittany Ray. I volunteer with the Chicago Feeding Group, and I have a special note for those of you who, like me, work professionally with children and families.

As you know, our mission has been to help children and families struggling with pediatric feeding disorder. But as a leadership team of both SLPs and OTs, we realized quickly that one of the significant barriers was accessible, affordable, evidence-based education for therapists and providers.

This was exactly my story. I found Chicago Feeding Group just when it was just a modest small group for mutual professional support in the Chicago area. I couldn’t believe I found a training event with a well known name like Marsha Dunn Klein! I walked away with real skills that was really helping the kids and families I was seeing. I even started volunteering.

But when the pandemic hit, and we took our events online, we suddenly grew. And grew! We had professionals and parents from all over the nation “tuning in” to get additional training on issues that could otherwise be expensive or difficult to find.

We especially find that we’re a great resource for new therapists in their first few years who don’t have the resources to self-train but are often seeing children whose wellbeing depends on them. One common case is Early Intervention providers, who see many at risk kids but have few training opportunities.

As a professional, you know what it’s like to need additional support. So if you’ve found yourself having success in the field, could I ask you to put a piece of your investment into our end of year giving campaign?

We are seeking to raise $10,000 by December 31, 2022 so we can continue and expand the evidence-based feeding therapy training that I’m proud that we’ve been able to offer every single month.

Please see our full giving campaign page, and if you are able, please join our campaign.

Let’s be therapists who give back! Thank you so much.

Brittany Ray, M.S. CCC-SLP
