SUMMARY:Pediatric Dentistry: What You Need To Know Before They Turn One!
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Drs. Cissy Furusho and Kirk Kollmann\n \nJoin us for an update to our previous course: Unscrambling the Oral Alphabet!\nThe tongue, lip and frenum are often overlooked in the diagnosis of problematic functions relating to breastfeeding, speech, swallowing and eating. Parents are often confused about where to go for help or where to start due to the many conflicting opinions from professionals and online resources. We hope to clarify how each member of the team plays a role in the solution. After this course, you will be able to diagnose signs and symptoms related to tongue and lip ties in relation to your specialty. We will cover an update on the correlation between breastfeeding and frenotomies, growth and development of the oral cavity and how to educate parents on good oral hygiene. \n \nImportant Registration Information\n \nTickets are available for Parent/Caregivers, Students, or Professionals. Please use the appropriate ticket for your role. She received her D.D.S., pediatric specialty degree and earned her Masters Degree in Oral Biology at University of Illinois College of Dentistry. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is deeply involved in organized dentistry having served as President of the American Association of Women Dentists, on the Board of Delta Dental Insurance Illinois, Board member of University of Illinois Alumni Association, and was on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Dental Society. Cissy is a Fellow of both the American College of Dentistry and the International College of Dentistry. She is an animal advocate and in her spare time she loves volunteering at her son Ryan’s school.\n \nDr. Kirk Kollmann graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry and did his Pediatric Dental residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He is active in organized dentistry being the editor for the Chicago Dental Society North Side Branch Newsletter for many years. He co-produced a video on Stainless Steel Crowns with Dr. Marvin Berman and has spoken on various topics at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting, National AGD Meetings, AAPD and numerous other meetings. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentists and enjoys serving the Cranio-Facial population in the Chicagoland area while teaching the pediatric dental residents at Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital.\nAnother passion of Dr. Kollmann stems from learning about Myo-functional therapy and its relationship to breastfeeding. This propelled him to work with the dyad of mother and infant and the problems they were having with breastfeeding. He has been practicing dentistry for almost 30 years and is a partner in private practice on the North side of Chicago.\n
